“Cutters” getting their way for Hannah Montana

By CMCMan | September 29, 2007

tickets go on sale Saturday morning for what’s expected to be one of the hottest concerts in recent history. If you have children, you probably know teenage TV and music sensation Hannah Montana is coming to the Mellon Arena. But there is a problem. Scalpers seem to have found a way to cut in line when it comes to getting tickets, leaving a trail of disappointed fans across the country.

Miley Cyrus, who stars as Hannah Montana, is the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. Her concerts are very popular among children, often selling out in 15 minutes or less.tickets are selling out so quickly that attorneys general in two states claim that scalpers buying tickets online through TicketMaster have found a way to cut in front of everyone else.”What happened is these people who blitzed the site bought up large chunks of them, have now put them back into the ’scalper’s market,’ and they’re being sold on Internet sites for as much as 10 times the face price,” said Arkansas Deputy Attorney General Justin Allen.TicketMaster, which also handles sporting events like Steelers games, admits scalpers have developed special software to cut the ticket line.”We’re doing everything we can technically and legally to stop them,” an official from the company said. For the January concert in Pittsburgh, TicketMaster will now limit online sales to people living in nearby zip codes and only allow each household four tickets. For those of you planning to head to Mellon Arena on Saturday to purchase tickets, officials said it would be done randomly by a lottery, not first-come, first-serve.
