Miley Cyrus to perform in Spain for first time

February 8th, 2010

MADRID (Billboard) – Miley Cyrus is to play her first concert in Spain, at the Rock in Rio Madrid 2010 festival on June 6.

A week ago, Bon Jovi (June 4), Shakira and Rihanna (both June 5) were the first performers confirmed for this year’s Rock in Rio Madrid. Cyrus was added to the list Friday, with the news that June 6 will be a family day, with tens of thousands of children expected.

Rock in Rio Madrid will take place over two weekends — June 4-6, and two unconfirmed days of the following weekend — at Rock City, a 200,000-square-meter (50-acre) area in Arganda del Rel, 17 km (10 miles) from Madrid.

As a condition for playing the festival, Cyrus will not perform any other concert in Spain this year. Although she has never performed in Spain, Cyrus has a huge youth following here, and event organizer Roberto Medina announced her performance at a Madrid college in front of cheering and screaming children as well as TV cameras.

Cyrus’ new film, “The Last Song,” will premiere in Spain in May.

Rock in Rio was founded in Rio de Janeiro in January 1985, and subsequent events in Lisbon and Madrid have been arranged by Brazilian founder Medina. This will be the second Rock in Rio Madrid. The first, in 2008, was attended by 290,000 fans.

Miley Cyrus Auctioning off Grammy Dress for Haiti

February 2nd, 2010

Miley Cyrus is joining the efforts to help the victims of Haiti. She’s announced she’s selling her dress that she wore to last night’s Grammy Awards. She stepped onto the red carpet wearing a gorgeous dark teal frock designed by Herve Leger.

And she’s decided to put up the gown for sale as part of an internet auction launching on eBay.com later this week. Miley says she’s ben deeply moved by the devastation and wants to do her part to help.

Miley tells USA Today, “I’m going to auction it off on eBay for the Red Cross. It’s the little things you can do. I think it’s really important that everybody come (sic) together because disaster relief isn’t just now. It’s how we’re going to help years from now. We have to restore an entire place. It just can’t be one person, one foundation, one group of people. All people have to come together.”

Miley has also announced she’s joining Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie’s re-recording of the 1985 classic “We Are The World.” Nice work, Miley!

Miley Cyrus Looks To Join Demi Moore In ‘LOL: Laughing Out Loud’ Remake

January 30th, 2010

Disney star is considering a role in the remake of the French mother-daughter comedy.

Miley Cyrus might just have found her next big-screen project in “LOL: Laughing Out Loud.” According to a report in Variety, the 17-year-old Disney star is in talks to join the English-language remake of the French original, with Demi Moore likely to play her mother.

The film will follow Cyrus as a 15-year-old who is cast off by her boyfriend and decides to pursue his best friend. Meanwhile, the teen’s 40-year-old mother (the 47-year-old Moore) is divorced and finding it difficult to restart her life as a single woman struggling to maintain a civil relationship with her daughter.

The original “LOL,” starring Sophie Marceau, hit theaters in 2008 and went on to gross over $20 million, according to Variety. Lisa Azuelos, who wrote and directed the original, will also write and direct the new version.

With Cyrus just beginning production on the fourth and final season of “Hannah Montana,” the move to “LOL” would signal yet another incremental step away from the Disney universe for the teen star. In April, in what is perhaps her most mature role to date, Cyrus will star in the drama “The Last Song” opposite newcomer Liam Hemsworth. She also has a cameo in the upcoming “Sex and the City” sequel, due out in May.

Cyrus has also been verbally expressing a more adult worldview recently, one that is beginning to be evident in her career decisions as well. “My job is to be a role model, and that’s what I want to do, but my job isn’t to be a parent,” she says in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

It’s a “Party in the USA”

January 30th, 2010

Hardcore kids in Miley Cyrus sing-a-long

There’s a video making the rounds.  It was up on TwitVid, then YouTube, and just found its way to the MTV Iggy Blog.  It’s from a punk rock show in Atlanta, Georgia on January 12th.  You should care about this because:

1. The video was taken by the unofficially official True/Slant photographer, the very ink’d and very happening Matt X. Miller (he took this picture).

2. The video already has over 25k views on the ‘Tube with a bullet

3. It shows that we can set our differences aside and find common ground, whether you’re a little bit country or a little bit rock-n-roll.
4. It captures a moment in time and sincere, authentic fun.  Remember fun?

From the MTV Iggy Blog:

And yet sometimes, in America, you all sit at the dinner table together. And you understand why he doesn’t want to work. And you like his tattoos. And you think maybe your sister isn’t so shallow, that maybe all she wants is to seek out beauty like we all do, to live in a fluffy, happy world.

In the video below, we see hardcore metalheads in Atlanta — you know, your older brother’s type — in a moment of rare, un-ironic love for their little American sisters.

At a show for hardcore bands Trapper Under Ice, Cruel Hand, Naysayer, and Foundation some smart alec put on Miley Cyrus’ USA hit, “Party in the USA” and what did the boys do? Turn it off? Tear the speakers to pieces? (See that song’s original video here.) Nope, they unabashedly danced, hugged, and sang (nearly) every word. It’s your YouTube of the day. A sneak peek into the weirdness that is America’s Teenage Wasteland:

So, here it is. Check out this video:

Will’s Comments: Well it is a great song. So what, they are not the typical demographic for Miley fans. Neither am I. Why can’t they enjoy it? I think this video is kewl.

Miley Cyrus gets on board with Simon Cowell’s Haiti Single

January 26th, 2010

Many singers reportedly participating in cover of R.E.M.’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ for earthquake relief.

Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey and Jon Bon Jovi have joined the list of stars pitching in on “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell’s charity single for Haiti relief. According to England’s The Sun, the singers will appear on the cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” which will also feature famous Brits Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis and Rod Stewart.

“It’s amazing these great singers are clearing their schedules to make this happen,” Cowell told the paper, which is helping to organize the single. “I just found out Mariah has changed her schedule to be able to do this too.”

Carey’s and Cyrus’ participation in the single could not be confirmed at press time, but an Island Def Jam rep did verify the news of Bon Jovi’s appearance

“It says such a lot that everyone is working so hard to help Haiti,” Cowell told the Sun. “This is something that really matters to us all, and I’m so grateful for the support we are getting.”

An unidentified source close to Cowell told the paper that Carey was very eager to pitch in on the all-star project. “Mariah was brilliant, she wanted to help in any way she could,” the source said. “Her name gives the single another great boost.”

The recording of the song kicked off in London over the weekend with “X Factor” judge Cheryl Cole and British act JLS, whose Oritse Williams lost relatives in the 7.0 earthquake that has so far claimed the lives of at least 150,000. Also expected to record their bits soon are Take That, Michael Bublé, Westlife, Alexandra Burke, James Morrison, Mika and James Blunt. All proceeds will be split between the Sun’s Helping Haiti fund and the official Disasters Emergency Committee appeal. It has not yet been announced when the single will be released.

Friday night’s all-star “Hope for Haiti Now” event has set a record for funds raised by public giving by a telethon with $58 million and counting. The iTunes album of the music from the show has already hit #1, notching the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history.
